The Racial Contract Is Grounded On Three Of Today s...

In Charles Mills The Racial Contract, his main argument is declaring the global white supremacy as the core of today’s political system. Mills opens with mentioning how other political philosophers in history have neglected to discuss race because of their own racial privileges. However, this is ironic given the significant of race and what social and political constraints race has put on certain groups of people. At the same time, race provides superiority for whites in the political and social spheres. Mills explains, â€Å"A Racial Contract might be more revealing of the real character of the world we are living in, and the corresponding historical deficiencies of its normative theories and practices†¦Ã¢â‚¬  (7). With over 4,000 employees and a million patients Peachtrees IT infrastructure has not kept up with their growth. The current IT system is not reliable, efficient and secure. The company mission is to provide quality, consistency and continuity care across the entire network delivered with efficacy, economy and respect for patients and staff. In addition, unlike the healthcare industry which moved to standardized care, Peachtree believes its focus should be on the selective standardization. In order to achieve its objectives, Peachtree needs to overcome its failing IT infrastructure. This could be attained by implementation of SOA based system since it best aligns with the companys business model, mission and goals. Another recommended step is that Peachtree turns toward an incremental implementation of SOA. Peachtree should retain what still works and adds value to the company and replace only the most inefficient parts of the current system. Finally, standardizing only certain areas of clinical treatment could provide efficiency and cost savings and at the same time would allow doctors to make the final call, so the quality of care and patient safety wouldnt be compromised. Current Situation During the last 12 years Peachtree had grown from a single teaching hospital to a regional network of 11 healthcare institutions with additional support facilities. All 11 healthcare institutions have different size, purpose, history and culture. Each hospital has its own IT system and is doing things differently. As a result, Peachtree is encountering a problem with its incompatible technology that creates many problems and inadequate performance. The consistency and continuity of care across entire network is compromised which is not consistent with Peachtrees goals. In addition, Peachtree current system is not reliable. Reliability is crucial for the company, since the doctors and patient depend on it, and the system is very important for carrying out the companys mission. Another related issue is that a lot of time and budget goes into maintaining the current system. The  support and control of the current system is very difficult, and its not cost efficient. The more Peachtree grows, the bigger that problem will become. This is not consistent with companys goal to deliver care with the highest level of efficiency and economy. While the healthcare industry has moved towards standardization, Peachtree has resisted. One advantage of the current system is that it doesnt enforce blanked standardization, but provides flexibility. It gives the physicians freedom to form their own judgments about which treatment to use for which patient. This ensures quality care and respect for patients and stuff which is part of Peachtrees mission statement. Yet, many areas of clinical treatment could safely be standardized around best practises without compromising patient safety and quality of care. SOA based system provides a range of standardization choices, reliability, flexibility and cost efficiency. It also allows replacement of only certain inefficient parts of the existing system. It is also recommended that Peachtree turns toward an incremental implementation of SOA. Peachtree should retain what still works and adds value to the company and replace only the most inefficient parts of the current system. This would be more cost efficient approach and would provide opportunities to adjust and redesign along the way. Also, by gradually installing the SOA, Peachtree and its doctors would learn about how the systems worked and â€Å"master† it in a sense as the infrastructure moved further. Furthermore, it is recommended that a selective standardized care is implemented. In that way certain areas of clinical treatment could be standar dized in order to achieve efficiency and cost savings. At the same time, doctors would be allowed to make the final call, so the quality of care and patient safety wouldnt be compromised. Risk Management Plan Since the SOA technology is untested in the health care environment, its implementation might be risky, but with a proper planning the probability for success is greatly increased. In order to ensure success with the implementation of the SOA based system, an oversight committee must be formed. The committees role will be to ensure that the new system aligns with the business goals and that the implementation schedule is followed. This will reduce the risk from project failures. Since the cost for the implementation of the new system is undetermined, Peachtree should be strong enough to absorb the hit if the technology project goes overbudget. Series of small, but independent projects could be run which will reduce not only the financial risk, but the risk of business  and technology change. This also will provide opportunities to adjust, redesign and reprioritize along the way. The oversight committee will also play an important role in preventing budget overruns. Yet, if the new system is total failure, Peachtree needs to be prepared to terminate the project. In order to ensure success of the SOA based system, Peachtree must carefully consider how the new system could be best aligned with companys current business practices. The management needs to determine what the system needs to do, which parts from the old system still add value and should be retained, which parts need to be replaced and which standardized. Again, series of small but independent projects will allow for project flexibility and adjustments along the way. Peachtree could use pre-fabricated SOA module coupled with customized modules to achieve the most basic and critical functions first. Since SOA allows for outsourcing, Peachtree could purchase a custom built service and focus on modules that best help the company to achieve its strategy. However, Peachtree is in an unique position since there is not pre-built SOA for the health care field. This may result in unexpected cost, but should allow for more customized modules making the achievement of the business goals easer . The health care industry is not competing on price, but its competing on product features, quality of service, delivery time etc. Thus, the quality care is very important for the success of the company. In order to maintain a quality care, the new SOA system must excel at reliability and security. Reliability is crucial for the company since the doctors and patient depend on it. Even a short downtime could be disastrous for Peachtree. In order to ensure reliability the new system should be well planned with respect to power failures hackers and hardware failures, and based on a single transferable platform to allow for efficient data sharing. By using pre-built modules, when possible, the system could be both reliable and secure. Furthermore, if outsourcing is used additional people would need access to confidential data in order to implement the process. Peachtree needs to research the outsourcing company to ensure the confidentiality of the patients. Elderlies in the Philippines Essay

When people grow old, they either have the option of being cared for by family or being cared for by the homes. In making that choice, there seems to be a cultural pattern or tradition that is prevalent. In most Western countries, where the values of youth, self-reliance and individualism are held in high regard, the latter is chosen most of the time. In Asian countries however, like that of China where the concept of ‘filial piety’ means showing obedience, deference and respect to your elders are honoured, taking in the elderly is a common practice. The significant number of the elderly in the Philippines population is not ignorable. In the Philippines, 6.8% of the 92.1 million household in 2010, make up the senior citizen sector. Among these, females (55.8%) outnumber the males (44.2%). The ageing index of the country was computed to be at 20.3% in 2010. This means, that for every five children under 15 years old, there is one person aged 60 years and over. But to add to add to this, these elderlies once contributed to the government’s institutions and their contributions should not be overlooked even though they seem to be well past their primes. They say, wisdom comes with age. Perhaps then, this paper, that serves to analyse the perceptions and receptions of the elderly, will contribute, not only to what today’s youth and the next generation could give back to the elderly but how the community and the country, could age with the elderly, both in years and in wisdom. The discussants and interviewees have varied backgrounds from Quezon City, to San Juan City and Makati City – almost all have children, most are still married and some of them still live with their children and grandchildren. LIVING ARRANGEMENTS: The Female Prowess Most of the respondents preferred to live with their daughters who are not married. If the latter is not fulfilled, they still prefer to live with their daughters over their sons. The respondents did not like being taken cared of by those that are married already because of: a) the inlaws b) the children and b) the husband. On an FGD, a male discussant said, â€Å"Ngayon nga ang hirap nung may asawa kasi kapag kapwa babae hyan, mahirap magkasundo.† On an FGD, a female discussant said, â€Å"Nawala na ang atensyon sa magulang at sa anak na lahat.† On an interview, a female interviewee said, â€Å"Mag-iiba talaga may asawa. Susundin niya ung asawa niya.† Despite the reasons they gave however, the underlying tradition brought about by the masculine dominated post-colonial Asian Catholic values puts an expectation and/or pressure on the female children as most of the respondents, when asked, prefer to live with their daughters going with the answer, â€Å"kasi babae eh†. The fact that no further explanations were offered by some suggests that it is understood what being a woman entails. Another discussant said â€Å"eh mga anak ko kasi mga babae kaya spoiled din ako sa mga pasalubong at alaga nila†, implying that girls are generous and caring. Not only is it given in this case, but expected as well, because the respondents chose their female over their male children. Birth order Like the sex difference in the perceptions of the elderly when it comes to the living arrangements they prefer, the birth order has a relevant count in the Filipino household. The eldest is looked up to to fulfil the cumulative responsibilities of the children, although it does not take precedence in choosing the female as the caregiver of the parents. The eldest might be a man and it is expected of him to marry whenever it’s the right time. Although the eldest is usually the bearer of the responsibilities with regards to family woes, he is expected to look at the family in a macrocosm (from his own family born out of marriage, to the family of his siblings, and to the family he was born out of), thus making way for the woman in the family to focus on the microcosm picture of taking care of the elderly. Birth order is of relevance because they have the power to influence one of the discussions of the constantly persist in the family when an elderly is involved. Mon ey A few respondents said that inheritance is a hard topic to discuss because the children drag in the birth order when the discussion is opened. â€Å"Mahirap pag-usapan agn mana. †¦Ako ang eldest, dapat sa akin and ganito, ganyan.† â€Å"Dapat pag-usapan na. Mahalaga ang pinag-uusapan ang mana, para hindi na magkagulo.† Although a few wish to evade the discussion that may break up the family, others pointed out that the earlier it gets talked about the lesser the trouble it would cause. Thus, the perception between the birth order and the money involved in the inheritance is of question. However, only one respondent answered straight as an arrow when asked the question. â€Å"Siguro kung meron man doon yun mapupunta sa makakatulong pa sa akin.† Taga-payo/Nanghihimasok Whereas they passively recognize that they should take an active role in the inheritance and in their living preferences, when asked about their other roles inside within the four walls, the elderlies answered that they take a passive stance knowingly. They usually do minimal household chores for the family. Taking care of the apos also came with the list especially when both the parents are working. The role of taking care of the grandchildren seems to be a practice that is accepted by the community. The help however extends still when they offer advice to the family although most of the respondents say that their takes on the matter merely serve as guides. â€Å"Mga important decisions, ayokong makialam.† Important decisions to be made are not sometimes consulted and/or offered but most of the respondents have indicated that their children should know what they are doing and that they are only there to guide but not to commit what grandparents are usually accused of: nanghih imasok or overstepping on family matters. Pamilyang Pilipino Still on the topic of how and where one lives, the topic of Hones for the Aged were brought to the floor. One verbatim account that could best collate the answers of others are worded, â€Å"Ang maganda lang dyan eh makakasama ka ng mga taong nakaka-initindi sa inyo dahil pare-pareho kayong oldies, pero ayoko atang matrap sa loob ng institusyon maski gaano kaganda.† All the respondents who were asked about their perceptions of the Home for the Aged had negatives views and did not wish to be in a Home. A common response was the respondents’ comparison of the Homes here with the Homes in the West from: the price of going into a home, the facilities, the care received, the government support. Some were actually tolerable to the idea of a Home provided that the Home is in the US. However, the concept of Pamilyang Pilipino is still very much there as they feel that they should stick together with their families. Children taking care of their parents seemed to be a given as well as one respondent answered. â€Å"SOP dapat yun†. Another pointed out that children must be taught by their schools of the responsibility of children to take care of their elders, implying that sending them to a Home does not constitute what care is. BEYOND the FOUR WALLS Libang Outside the confines of a house, the topic of work has been discussed with the respondents. Almost all of the respondents said that their work now is mostly for them to do something. Work now is treated as a â€Å"libangan na lamang† because they have pension, the children are no longer going to school and most of them are already working too. Work keeps them busy. â€Å"Eh kasi pag tumatambay lang ako para akong nagkakasakit,†, this thought on being idle has been voiced out by a lot of the respondents. Some respondents, especially those who are not entitled to their pension and don’t have children, do intend to still work while they still can because they do feel that they need to save. The thought of work being just a necessity and not a hobby prevails.All of them however, still say that they love their job and they try to still be good at it. â€Å"Ang naapektuhan lang sa akin ay ang bilis sa pagtatrabaho, lalo na kapag may rayuma. Kung dati nagagawa ko ang task ng isang oras nagagawa ko ngayon ng tatlong oras, yung dedication sa trabaho, walang pinagbago.† Organizations Besides from work, they have social groups that they participate in. Organizations seem to be hot even with the elderly. â€Å"Dati kasi wala namang ganito. Dati ung lola ko sa simbahan lang un. Ung ngayon naman, nasa brgy kami, may ganito kami, nasa qc hall kami. Kaya dumadami ung senior na nagpparticipate.† Associations seem to make the elderly’s time more fruitful. Being church group leaders and active participants make them look forward to something. Organizations offer belongingness when it can’t be found at home and/or in the workplace. The PRACTICES of RESPECT â€Å"Para nang ang trato ng mga kabataan ay parang halos kasing edad nila ang matatanda.† The distance between the elderlies and the today’s generation seem to be closer. And whereas almost all consider this to have a negative effect, some actually disagree. In Action If the presence of many organizations seems to be non-traditional with respect to the elderlies, the practices of respect are expected and are held in high regard as well. The respondents’ responses for respect come in two forms: in words and actions. As actions speak louder than words, most of the elderly said that the practices that they did for their grandparents, ceased to exist now. Pagmamano, a distinct Filipino trait when respecting the elderly is not practiced as much anymore. So is offering a seat during a bus ride and helping them to cross the street. With respect, it’s not what you do that counts but what you don’t as well. The presences of vices or engaging in bisyos are tantamount to disrespecting your elders. In Words The long standing po and opo still seem to be in effect as no respondent brought it up. But again, sometimes, it’s not what you say, but what you don’t that could please the elders. Whereas, in some cultures, explaining yourself and whatever misconduct or shortcoming is the accepted practice to show that you respect someone who is talking to you, in the Philippines, talking back is one of the most disrespectful things you could commit. A discussant defined respect as, â€Å"Un bang pag nagagalit ako, hndi sila sumasagot sa akin.† However, not all of the respondents agreed to this. A respondent pointed out that today’s generation are not only â€Å"mas western† but are more vocal. â€Å"Ngayon kasi nagkakaroon kasi ng dialog ang mga may edad at saka mga bata. Sinasabi nila kung ano ang mali. Hindi naman lahat ng magulang tama.† The dialogue between the elderly and the youth is seen as a way of adjusting to each other’s needs. A lmost all of the respondent however prefer what was practiced then, some saying, â€Å"Dati smin, isang tingin, tiklop ka na.† Kusang Loob/Utang na Loob/Asa Respect however, encompasses not only the tangible practices. It moves in the bigger picture or dialog between the elderly and the children. When asked about the support that their children can give to them, almost all answered that they do not want to keep their hopes up. The concept of asa seems to be greatly tied to the concept of asking help. Filipinos, in general â€Å"do not want to take no for an answer†. This Ready for Disappointment mentality mentioned in Lacson, 2001, persists even in the elderlies as they would rather not ask help because, as one respondent said, â€Å"Masakit umasa.† Although almost all of the respondents answered that they are not expecting help, the concept of kusang loob is present. â€Å"I did my best to provide at nagkukusang-loob naman silang tumulong sa akin ngayon.† â€Å"Hindi ako lumalapit. Ang nangyayari, sila mismo ang gumagawa ng paraan.† The elderly do not expect help. They expect the ir children to understand that help should not be asked but it is expected to be offered. Utang na Loob â€Å"Dapat tumanaw ka ng utang na loob. Hindi ka tao kung hindi dahil sa kanila.† Most of the respondents said that it is only right to give back to people who have spent on you. Because of their Ready for Disappointment, almost all did not explicitly say that it is their children who need to give back to them. They mainly pointed out the importance of giving back. The three concepts are tied together. The elderly do not want to ask for help and get their hopes up in the fear of being hurt or disappointed. But because they feel that they’ve raised their children in a befitting manner, they should look back and â€Å"tumanaw ng utang na loob† by offering help that they won’t ask but they somehow expect to a certain point. The RISE of TECHNOLOGY The elderly, although a stickler for the ways of showing respect, try to adapt themselves to the current generation and its technology and one respondent even attributed a practive of respect through the means of technology. When asked to define respect, she said, â€Å"Kinakamusta ako sa text.† â€Å"Kahit papano gusto ko updated ako sa mga pinag-uusapan ng mga bata, sa pinapanuod at ginagawa nila. Mabagal man ako makaintindi niyang ipad-ipad ng mga batang yan pero ngayon atleast natuto na akong mag email at magchat sa facebook.† This answer should be looked at a bigger picture however because unlike the other respondents, this respondent came from one of a city with a thriving business. And with that, the respondent is more surrounded by people who aggressively take part in the fast and changing world. The enthusiasm of the respondent was echoed by most of the respondents. Some practices of respect which could not be performed by the children were unknowingly blaming technology or the children who were born into a generation that is very technology-dependent. â€Å"Dati kasi pag dating ni amang may dala silang slippers (a Philippine tradition where the children brings the father the slippers on the premise that he needs to relax after a long day’s work), eh ngayon tutok na sa TV.† â€Å"Malakas kasi ung impluensya ng napapnuod. Imbis na making sa lola. Kasi may gngawa, kasi nagkkomputer.† â€Å"Nagsasalita ka ng salita mo, un pala may nakasaksak na earphones dito.† One of the respondents also noticed the reaction of the children towards technology when the elderly tries to involve themselves with the onhand technology. â€Å"Tapos pansin ko lang siguro na maikli ang pasensiya ng mga bata..lalo na pagtechnology ang tinatanong mo.†

How to prepare to do lists-Step 1: Write down all of the tasks that you need to complete.If they're large tasks, break out the first action step, and write this down with the larger task. Step 2 Run through these tasks allocating priorities from A (very important, or very urgent) to F (unimportant, or not at all urgent). List tasks in order of importance and start working upon them. Eat Healthy – avoid processed and fast food as much as possible. Try eating foods high in omega 3 as this is great brain food. Avoid Caffeine (e. g. offee, caffeine tablets, Red Bull) and high sugared snacks, as these give you a short lift before making you crash and burn. They can make you feel sick and can interfere with your sleep and therefore your ability to concentrate.You actually study better with regular breaks, getting lots of sleep and from exercising. Avoid Cramming the night before an exam, make sure you get a good night sleep and wake up earlier if you want to read over your notes rather than staying up late Slide ten: creativity skills Brainstorming is commonly used to generate ideas, and to come up with creative solutions to problems. Brainstorming combines a relaxed, informal approach to problem solving with lateral thinking. It encourages people to come up with thoughts and ideas that can, at first, seem a bit crazy.Some of these ideas can be crafted into original, creative solutions to a problem, while others can spark even more ideas. This helps to get people unstuck by â€Å"Jolting† them out of their normal ways of thinking. Decision trees can be used as a tool while brainstorming on a specific tasks for example your English essays or while planning an experiment in your biology. You start a Decision Tree with a decision that you need to make. Draw a small square to represent this towards the left of a large piece of paper.From this box draw out lines towards the right for each possible solution, and write that solution along th e line. Keep the lines apart as far as possible so that you can expand your thoughts. After you have written the solutions, elaborate each solution further till you have a flow chart. You have the opportunity to help Hong Ban University." In this meeting, I learned how to live in school and society. I made my mind up to do my best at everything and found what I wanted to focus on. I knew that when our thinking changes, our vision clears. I began to go to Sai Gon, which is a circle for studying, and started my new life. In the circle, there were a lot of rules and friends. At the time, I was happy, because I had a good time with my friends and learned knowledge I did not know before. However, when I took the exam the first time, I scored only 22 points out of 100 on the exam. This was much lower than what I expected, even though I had studied for only one year, and was not ready enough to pass the exam. I felt disappointment again. After one year, I thought I was able to pass the exam this time, but when I took the exam a second time, I received 58 points, and still couldn't pass the exam. I felt disappointment once more. After that, I became a senior. I couldn't afford to spend my time any more for the exam. Because all men must go to the army in Viet Nam, I had only one year for the exam. The time was important to me, so I decided to spend the time efficiently. Before anything else, I set a goal for how much I would study, made specific rules including daily schedules, and bought a clock. I tried to keep the goal and my rules. Sometimes, I wanted to have a rest, but I always thought about my goal and overcame my desire. One night, I had studied hard for the exam in college and thought I did my best. When I was on the way home, I felt comfortable and could have self-esteem. As a result, I passed the exam. I also learned that to do my best brought happiness to me. Though the time was difficult, it was important to me and brought delight to me. I thought that achievement, self-content, and the development of me were real happiness. This time was one of the best times in my life.

It is divided into an anterior lobe, intermediate zone, and posterior lobe, all of which are involved in either  hormone production or hormone secretion.  The pituitary gland is termed the Master Gland because it directs other  organs  and endocrine glands to either suppress or induce hormone production. The posterior pituitary also stores hypothalmic hormones.  Blood vessel connections between the hypothalamus and anterior pituitary allow hypothalamic hormones to control anterior pituitary hormone production and secretion. The hypothalamus-pituitary complex serves to maintain homeostasis by monitoring and adjusting physiological processes through hormone secretion. Pituitary Function The pituitary gland is involved in several functions of the body including: Growth hormone productionProduction of hormones that act on other endocrine glandsProduction of hormones that act on the muscles and the kidneysEndocrine function regulationStorage of hormones produced by the hypothalamus Location Directionally, the pituitary gland is located in the middle of the base of the brain, inferior to the hypothalamus. It is nestled  within  a depression in the sphenoid bone of the skull called the sella turcica. The  pituitary gland extends from and is connected to the hypothalamus by a stalk-like structure called the infundibulum, or pituitary stalk. Pituitary Hormones The posterior pituitary lobe does not produce hormones but stores hormones produced by the hypothalamus. Posterior pituitary hormones include antidiuretic hormone and oxytocin. The anterior pituitary lobe produces six hormones that are either stimulated or inhibited by hypothalamic hormone secretion. The intermediate pituitary zone produces and secretes melanocyte-stimulating hormone. Intermediate Pituitary Hormones Melanocyte-stimulating Hormone (MSH): promotes melanin production in skin cells called melanocytes.  This induces skin darkening. Pituitary Disorders Pituitary disorders result in the disruption of normal pituitary function and the proper functioning of target organs of pituitary hormones. These disorders are most commonly the result of tumors, which cause the pituitary to produce either not enough or too much of a hormone. In hypopituitarism, the pituitary produces low levels of hormones. The insufficiency of pituitary hormone production causes a deficiency in the production of hormones in other glands. For example, a deficiency in thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) production can result in an under-active thyroid gland. Lack of thyroid hormone production slows down normal body functions. Symptoms that may arise include weight gain, weakness, constipation, and depression. Insufficient levels of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) production by the pituitary results in under-active adrenal glands. Adrenal gland hormones are important for maintaining vital body functions such as blood pressure control and water balance. This conditio n is also known as Addisons disease and can be fatal if not treated. In hyperpituitarism, the pituitary is overactive producing hormones in excess. An overproduction of growth hormone may result in acromegaly in adults. This condition results in excessive growth of bones and tissues in the hands, feet, and face. In children, overproduction of growth hormone may result in gigantism. Overproduction of ACTH causes the adrenal glands to produce too much cortisol, which results in problems related to metabolism regulation. Overproduction of the pituitary hormone TSH may result in  hyperthyroidism, or the overproduction of thyroid hormones. Besides, it also helps the nurse to better care for the patient. Therapeutic communication is an crucial tool above all other interventions in mental health setting, for optimistic results, for building of nurse client relationship, for ventilation of sentiments, for exploring fundamental approach of patients about themselves and their illnesses (Morrissey Callaghan, 2011). The worth of a therapeutic relationship depends on the capability of health care worker to converse effectively (Banar, 2011). In a relationship between nurse and patient, a nurse ought to establish qualitative therapeutic relationship with their client which will be influenced by worth full communication skills (Desmond Copeland 2000, as cited in Daniels 2004). As we encounter many patients around us in health care setting, who needs to express their feelings and talk but have some distress and needs motivation and encouragement from health care provider. A similar example that came under my clinical observation was that a 21 years old Raeez admitted in Baqai hospital with the diagnose of anti-social personality. Initially, neither patient was showing his interest to talk and interact with others nor was maintaining good eye contact. He also refused to talk with us, but as a result of expressing his feelings through therapeutic communication like giving attention to immediate interaction, motivation and encouragement, client became socially interacted. The two modes of communication are well defined by Daniels, 2004. He states that people communicate not only verbally through words but also nonverbally through actions. In the light of clinical scenario, due to verbal and nonverbal skills patient started expressing his sentiments. Moreover, he says that time and place are significant to the component of therapeutic communication. The amount of time is not only important but how it is spent qualitatively is the priority to be concerned. He also states that touch is the potent mean for communication that ensure patients that there is someone to care for them, give them respect and aids in building therapeutic bond between nurse and patient. In addition, a nurse must understand the ethnic consequence to avert potential complications. .Besides, active listening is the keystone of all communications (Daniel, 2004). In relation with the scenario, the nurse made the patient the center of attention and motivated him while communicating effectively. Furthermore, accepting the client is the most important to therapeutic communication. Every nurse should aware of her own prejudices and approach each client from a perspective of recognition (Daniels 2004, p.77). Additionally, questioning is another vital communication tool that helps in building rapport and trust, showing empathy, comprehends clients experience and elicits essential health data (Daniels 2004, p.75). Besides, directing, focusing, reflecting, clarifying, summarizing, maintaining silence is some of the other therapeutic tactics that must be applied while interviewing (White, 2004). Therapeutic communication is attained when desired results are skillful. Contrary, there are certain factors that hinder the ultimate desire to get, termed as barriers.One of the main barriers is environment (Fielding, 2006). It is also observed in clinical setting that wards are usually overloaded that doesnt make the patient feel comfortable during conversation. Reflecting to the scenario, patient neither showed interest to talk nor maintained eye contact as others were also interviewing at that moment. Unkempt appearance, gestures, long hair that dangles on or over the client while providing care and breathes scent also hinders communication (Timby 2009, p.95). Another negative aspect arises when the clinician loses focus and empathy for a patient (Russell-Delucas, 2010). Sullivan (1954, as cited in Lorebell n.d.) considers anxiety as a chief barrier to effective communication. Response to anxiety can be motivating or distressful. In relation to the scenario, the patient refused t o talk that increased nurses anxiety but her response to anxiety was motivating that helped her in effective communication. Beside, giving false reassurance, passing judgments, using platitudes, defending yourself are some other barriers that impede therapeutic communication (White 2004, p.117-118). Additionally, cultural and age variations, comprehension and proficient differences, tongue barrier and way of thinking are other obstacles (Klimova Semradova, 2012). The impact of therapeutic communication is that it facilitates clients autonomy, emphasizes a holistic view of a person, communicate that nurse is here to listen, help and plan for their betterment (Banar, 2012). In opposing, non-therapeutic communication converses that patients dignity and care is not our priority that make him feel disregarded and not the valuable creature (Morrissey Callaghan, 2011). In the light of Pepleus interpersonal theory (1988, as cited in NURSEINTERRUPTED 2012), communication is central aspect in nurse-client relation. This two way communication explores underlying feelings, needs and emotions that patients possess. Peplau focuses on verbal aspects of communication that aid the client heals and overcome infirmity. In Peplaus theory, four major phases are talked about (Dinga Karvininen 2008). Formerly, the phase of orientation includes giving a helping hand when patient needs support and is uncomfortable due to certain situations. Here, identifying and assessing the problem, recognizing and planning the use of the needed resources sum-up this phase. Next is the identification phase. Here, due to care and support, client images the nurse as a vital portion of his life. This can be beneficial and can hinder the essence of a professional relationship. To come out of it, nurse should encourage independent activities for patients. Moreover continuous validatio n of clients perception of care should be reinforced. Then comes the exploitation phase which is combined with resolution phase where patient is satisfied with the given care and he tries to be more independent for better recovery. Egan (2002,as cited by Jootun McGhee 2011), used the acronym SOLER for non-verbal communication i.e. sit facing the patient directly, maintain an open stance, lean forward to some extent, establish and keep eye contact and adopt a comfortableposition. These are some of the strategies that regulate communication process and helps patient to ventilate their expressions. Arthur (2010) suggests that therapeutic gatherings must be conducted in a peaceful, quiet, regular tenor of voice to deliver that the environment is safe and harmless.Besides, encouraging the client to use any of the modes of communication like jotting down, symbolic sketches may also promote therapeutic communication (Jootun McGhee 2011). Moreover, cognitive therapy encourages client to examine their beliefs and explore alternatives that promote therapeutic communication (Scottsdale, 2011). In conclusion, nurses need to understand that therapeutic communication can make patients well-being and quality of life healthier. It is a health care provider who can use this dynamic and collaborative process to encourage, influence, instruct, provide mutual support and attain crucial information essential for sense of healthiness and comfort for the patient. Biography of Wyatt Earp :: essays research papers

Wyatt Earp was born in Monmouth, Illinois Monday, March 19, 1848 and died Friday January 13, 1929 in Los Angeles, California of the flu. Wyatt Earp is mostly famous for his gun fight at the OK Corral in Tombstone, Arizona 1881. But, there are more interesting facts about his life and you will hear them today. In 1876 Wyatt Earp was hired as an assistant Marshall in Dodge City, Kansas, one of the worst places in America at the time. In Dodge City daylight muggings and nighttime shootings were an everyday thing. When Wyatt became a lawman there he was able to stop the crimes without killing anybody, he put them in jail. One of his techniques was called ?buffaloing? where he would knock a criminal on the head with his favorite weapon, the Colt 45. In 1878 Wyatt met Doc Holliday. They became friends when Doc shot a man who was aiming at Wyatt?s back. Doc was also involved in the battle at the OK Corral. Doc suffered from Tuberculosis and went from 200 pounds to 122 pounds in the year after the gunfight. He died in 1883. The gunfight at the ok Corral started and ended in thirty violent seconds, but, it must have felt like thirty minutes to the fighters. Eight people were ready to fight. On one side were Wyatt, his brothers and Doc Holliday. On the other side were the Clantons and their gang of Cowboys (horse thieves and cattle rustlers of the time). They all had no intention of being disarmed. Frank McLaury, a Cowboy, had the best aim of the group. He was shot by Wyatt and was the first to die. Everybody started fighting. In the end, almost all the cowboys died, Ike Clanton begged for his life and was thrown in jail. Morgan Earp was shot in the shoulder. Virgil Earp was shot in the leg. Doc was shot in the hip. Only Wyatt came out unharmed.
